We're Growing - Welcome Melody Kramer!
Melody is a 20+ year veteran trial lawyer and graduate of the University of Nebraska, College of Law in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she was awarded The Order of Barristers for excellence in the art of courtroom advocacy. Since that time, Ms. Kramer has been honing her craft as an advocate for her clients in courtrooms across the country.
Melody began her legal career as a Deputy Public Defendant in rural Nebraska, than became a Special Prosecutor for Crimes Against Children, and later started her own law firm in Lincoln, Nebraska. Never deterred by seeming impossibilities, she took on challenging, sometimes seemingly unwinnable cases, with a marked level of success, including successfully prosecuting criminal cases and increasing real jail time served by offenders.
In addition to her legal practice, Melody was actively involved with the Nebraska State Bar Association, including working on the Ethics Committee and the Judiciary Committee, the Sale of Law Practice Subcommittee, Gender/Bias Subcommittee, and the Bench/Bar Conference Program Committees.
In 1999, Ms. Kramer returned to California and turned her focus to general civil litigation. She has handled a diverse caseload in state and federal courts including complex patent infringement litigation, business disputes, construction law, personal injury (plaintiff and defense), civil rights, and transactional work. Though a solo practitioner, Melody was capable of taking on complex litigation projects through strategic partnerships with other law firms working in concert to obtain the best results for her clients.
Melody is an avid writer and just published a book that is designed to take the mystery and fear out of dealing with lawyers -- “Why Lawyers Suck! Hacking the Legal System, Part 1.” She is also the co-author of two criminal prosecution manuals written for the Nebraska County Attorney’s Association and a blogger on several legal and small business blogs. Melody is also faculty for Solo Practice University.
Melody has also been a vocal advocate for improvement of the legal system. She co-founded the National Association of Freelance Legal Professionals and founded FreelanceLaw.com, both to increase the visibility and viability of the freelance legal marketplace. Now she has turned her attention to broader issues facing the legal industry, founding Legal Greenhouse, a think tank and developer of innovative legal solutions.
Melody is admitted to practice law in California and Nebraska (inactive), and is also admitted before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Eighth Circuit, United States District Courts for the Districts of Southern, Central, and Northern California, and District of Nebraska and been admitted pro hac vice in many other states.
Melody obtained a B.A. in Music from Union College, and spends her free time hanging out with her daughter and two cats, strolling on the beach, and working on her next book, Hacking the Legal System, Part 2.
